Battaglione Tuscania

The 1st Carabinieri Paratroopers Regiment "Tuscania" is a military unit of the Carabinieri, formed by paratrooper scouts, specialized in out-of-area military missions.
A battalion until 1996, since 2002 it has been part of the 2nd Carabinieri Mobile Brigade, a large unit that also includes the 7th Carabinieri Regiment "Trentino-Alto Adige", the 13th Carabinieri Regiment "Friuli-Venezia Giulia" and the Special Intervention Group. The "Tuscania" is currently based in Livorno, in the "Vannucci" barracks.
Despite its peculiarity, it adapts perfectly to the role that the Benemerita has always played, effectively combining typically military training and operations with the potential for use (also) in the judicial police proper. Since June 2024, the unit has been validated as a "Tier 2" Special Force.
